Radon In-Water Information

What is Radon?

Radon comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water.

The release of this radioactive gas enters the air you breathe, causing a potential health risk to you and your family.

Radon gas can be found in just about anywhere. It can get into any type of building -- homes, offices, and schools -- and build up to high levels.

How does Radon get into a water supply?

Radon comes from rock and soil beneath the home and incoming well water. It is a gas formed from the radioactive decay of radium which is found naturally in the ground.

The biggest threat related to radon in the home is the potential for long-term riskof lung cancer.

Radon in water is not so much a threat related to drinking the water (the radon would dissipate into the air by the time you brought the glass of water to your lips), but the release of radon into the air you breath while showering, bathing, etc. The most effective removal of radon ia accomplished with a system that depressurizes, sprays and agitates, then releases the radon gas out of the house through a vent.
